45 Martyred, Many More Wounded When Bomber Attacked JUI-F Gathering In Bajur

A suicide bomber blew up himself at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) gathering in Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bajaur region on Sunday evening, killing at least 45 people and wounding more than 200, according to police and rescue teams.

The horrible incident that terrified hundreds occurred at a Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) conference in the Bajaur district of Malakand division, close to the Afghan's Kunar province border.

To halt the killing spree, Bajaur officials announced a state of emergency in and around the district, as well as at hospitals, where the majority of the injured have been moved.

Pakistani army leaped into action when they heard about the blast and ferried the critical injured to the Peshwar via military helicopters.

No other piece of information about the deceased and injured was immediately released by the Pakistani government authorities.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari "voiced profound grief over the loss of precious lives," according to a statement issued by his Pakistan Peoples Party.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also strongly condemned the incident and sent his condolences to the families of the victims, including JUI-F leader Ziaullah Jan, whose death in the attack has been confirmed.

The military stated that after the inquiry is completed, it will release more information.

No claim of responsibility has yet been made for the bomb attack.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)  had called off the ceasefire in late November 2022, reached with the government in June 2022, and directed its militants to conduct attacks across the country.

After a truce with the government ran out, the TTP attacked military and paramilitary personnel in KPK and Balochistan, killing and wounding scores.

Afghanistan, (Daily Post). Insurgents attacked two vans in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif on Thursday, killing at least nine people.
