A stabbing incident in Germany Costs 2 lives

Berlin, Germany—(Daily Post)- A 28-year-old Afghan man stabbed a two-year-old child and his 41-year-old father in a German park, killing both. Police officers closed off the public park after two more people were critically injured and moved to the hospital. The state interior minister claims that the suspect, who had been jailed at least three times before for suspicious conduct, was let go after psychiatric therapy. Joachim Herrmann, the interior minister of Bavaria, said that he was supposed to return to Afghanistan after his refugee application was turned down. The incident is still being investigated, according to the police. The attack occurred at Schöntal Park in Aschaffenburg, about 36 kilometers southeast of Frankfurt, at approximately 11:45.

Slovakia & Hungary Blocked EU Sanctions Against Georgian Officials

Slovakia and Hungary blocked EU sanctions against Georgia. As protests continued, Hungary and Slovakia blocked an attempt to impose EU sanctions on Georgian officials.  Kaja Kallas, an Estonian politician and diplomat, urged sanctions against Georgian state personnel who were allegedly involved in the suppression of pro-European protesters. Meanwhile, a second measure to prevent visa-free travel for Georgians with diplomatic and service passports will move forward, as it only requires a qualified majority.  The European Commission is in charge of creating the strategy, according to Euronews. Mayotte, a French territory, devastated by Cyclone Chido

Paris, France  — (Daily Post) - A security source informed the media on Sunday that 14 people were killed and 249 more were seriously injured by a Cyclone on the French island territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean.  The powerful hurricane progressed close to Mozambique's coast after wreaking havoc on Mayotte's shantytowns, the French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau warned that the final toll might be high.  Damage to airports and electrical distribution will likely hamper the efforts of rescue workers and supplies being transported by air and sea in an area where even clean drinking water was already facing chronic shortages.  Government officials in the French area in the Indian Ocean said Sunday that Cyclone Chido's route of devastation over Mayotte might kill "several hundred people. Deadly Flash Flood Swept Through The Spanish City Valencia Leaving Hundreds Dead

As the deadliest flooding in 30 years hit the Valencia city of Spain, the death toll keeps climbing. As rescuers began their 3rd day of searching, the number of confirmed dead exceeded 206 on Friday, with more likely.  Local officials stated Yesterday that villages and roads in Valencia's eastern region were swamped as a result of Tuesday's torrential rainfall.  Flooding forced the cancellation of trains to Madrid and Barcelona, as well as the suspension of institutions and other important services in the worst affected districts, according to officials. Pedro Sanchez, the prime minister of Spain, called on people to remain indoors on Thursday, emphasizing that the damage was "not finished" and designating Valencia as a "disaster zone."

Von der Leyen Re-elected As President Of European Commission

Belgium, Brussels â€”  Ursula von der Leyen secured a second term as head of the European Commission on Thursday, 18 July 2024  with 401 votes.  In the ballot, 284 members of the 720-member European Parliament voted against von der Leyen's bid for a five-year extension as head of the EU's powerful executive body, while 401 voted in her favor.  Von der Leyen, of the centre-right European People's Party, received 401 votes in a secret ballot, well above the 361 votes required to be elected, the UK-based Reuters news agency reported.  For a second term, Ursula von der Leyen will continue to lead the Commission as Boss. She was assigned by MEPs for the first time in July 2019.

Spanish Politician Says EU Will Not Recognize Taiwan

During an interview with a foreign policy magazine Josep Borrell Fontanelles, a Spanish politician who has been serving as the Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy since 2019, said that Europe will not recognize Taiwan as a country.  Furthermore, he said that Europe needs to realize that breaking China through military conflict is not possible. Iraq Allegedly Threatened To Sever Diplomatic Ties with Sweden

 Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Thursday ordered the withdrawal of the Iraqi attorney general in Stockholm and the expulsion of the Swedish ambassador to Iraq, the Iraqi media reported.  On Thursday, the Iraqi government released a blistering statement, threatening to terminate diplomatic ties with Sweden if the Quran burnings continued.  The Iraqi government claimed in a statement that it had warned the Swedish government of its determination to terminate diplomatic ties if the Quran burning occurred again.  The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of senior military and security officials on Thursday morning, led by Iraq's prime minister, to address the Swedish government's approval to be granted to a person to subsequently burn sacred books in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. During the discussion, the burning of the Swedish embassy in Iraq was also highlighted.  The conference denounced the cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's supporters...

French Police Arrested 150 Rioters

According to French Interior Minister GĂ©rald Darmanen, around 150 people were arrested last night in France for taking part in riots sparked by police in the Nanterre district of Paris on June 27 when they shot dead a 17-year-old driver.  After a second night of rioting across the country, 150 people were arrested in France, Darmanin said Thursday.  The ministry said dozens of police officers were injured in the clashes. Town halls, schools, and police stations were destroyed or attacked during this night of intolerable violence against the republic's symbols. "150 arrests," Darmanin wrote on Twitter. Ammunition Factory Blast Kills 5 In Turkey

A massive explosion at a Turkish missile and explosives factory has killed five workers, officials say. At the government-run MKE missile and explosives facility, 40 kilometers east of the Turkish capital Ankara, the incident happened on Saturday morning. According to state media, the explosion also caused the windows of surrounding homes and apartments to break, injuring a number more persons.  The explosion was caused by an accident in the factory's dynamite department, officials said. Regional governor Wahap Sahin said there were still no workers or staff in the wreckage, and state media said injured workers were being taken to a nearby hospital.  Some are said to be seriously injured. "Our workers were carrying out their routine work when the explosion occurred," the official said. Emmanuel Macron re-elected as France president

France,(Daily Post).  French President Emmanuel Macron has been re-elected for the first time in 20 years. In Sunday's election in France, President Emmanuel Macron defeated his right-wing opponent Marine Le Pen by a wide margin, securing another term. After a painful campaign in which Marine Le Pen suffered a decisive defeat by 58.2 percent to 41.8 percent, according to preliminary data, he became the first French leader to win re-election in 20 years. Macron, who will address fans at a victory rally at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, won by a small margin compared to 2017, when he defeated Le Pen by 66% of the vote.  Turnout was also less than five years ago, with an absenteeism  rate of 28%.
