In Sunday's election in France, President Emmanuel Macron defeated his right-wing opponent Marine Le Pen by a wide margin, securing another term.
After a painful campaign in which Marine Le Pen suffered a decisive defeat by 58.2 percent to 41.8 percent, according to preliminary data, he became the first French leader to win re-election in 20 years.
Macron, who will address fans at a victory rally at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, won by a small margin compared to 2017, when he defeated Le Pen by 66% of the vote.
Turnout was also less than five years ago, with an absenteeism rate of 28%.
