1,500 Detainees Fled Mozambique Prison, 35 Killed Amid Unfrest

Maputo, Mozambique -- At least 1,500 prisoners escaped after Mozambique's post-election unrest. The police chief reported that a confrontation with security forces brought about the deaths of 33 inmates and the injuries of 15.  Police head further added that 33 jail inmates were killed and 15 others were injured in a clash with the security personnel.  The inmates fled during violent riots that destroyed police cars, stations, and other public facilities after Mozambique's constitutional council declared the ruling Frelimo party the winner. Authorities claimed that a "demonstration" involving a "group of illicit protesters" sparked the breakout from Maputo's central jail, 14 kilometers southwest of the city, at approximately midday on Wednesday.

Deadly Stampede Kills Dozens Children In Nigeria

  ABUJA, Nigeria  — (Daily Post) - At least 35 children were killed and six more were severely wounded in an audience stampede at a school festival in Nigeria. The heartbreaking incident took place in Ibadan, Nigeria's third-largest city. Eight people have reportedly been arrested by police "for their involvement" in this incident.  The main sponsor of the event, which was organized by the Wings Foundation and Agidigbo FM radio, was among those arrested on Wednesday at the Basorun Islamic High School. Videos and footage that appeared to be from the scene showed a large crowd of large children seeing others being carried away from an open field. RSF Massacred Dozens In Sudan Village

At least 40 villagers were killed in a paramilitary assault in central Sudan According to a local resistance movement, at least 40 villagers were killed on Sunday when the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked a hamlet in central Sudan.  Non-governmental Abu Gouta Resistance Committee, told media outlets that at least 40 villagers were killed in an RSF attack on Gouz Al-Naqa village of Abu Gouta area in Gezira State." The committee requested that civil society groups exert pressure on the RSF to grant local inhabitants access to bury the deceased. Since the attack, the RSF has not yet released any statement. In a June 2024 attack, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) massacred around 100 people in the village of Wad al-Noura in Gezira state. Nigeria - School Building Collapsed; Leaving 52 Dead & Wounded

According to media reports, around 22 pupils aged 14 to 15 were pronounced dead after a school building collapsed in Plateau State on Friday.  A double-story school building packed with 54 children collapsed in Plateau state, triggering an incident. The school administration claimed that 154 kids were trapped beneath the rubble, while police confirmed that 132 of them had been rescued and were receiving medical treatment. The police chief has verified that 22 students have died, according to the Associate Press.  At least twelve students died previously reported by Nigerian media. Rescue men and townspeople worked together to extract a trapped student from the ruins of the collapsed school building. 

Dozens Of Nigerians Killed In Gun Violence

ABUJA,  Nigeria  —  At least 34 people, including seven soldiers, were killed in a bandits attack in Nigeria's northwestern state of Zamfara,  vigilante chairman and villagers said.  Deadly gun violence erupted in the village of Dan Gulbi in Maru province on Monday afternoon, local sources told Reuters news agency.  One of the eyewitnesses stated that "27 villagers died in the attack while seven soldiers were ambushed on their way to assist the victims of the attack."  The Zamfara state police did not immediately reply to calls seeking evidence of the incident people said.  Since the last 3 years, gangs of highly trained bandits have wreaked havoc across Nigeria's northwest, kidnapping thousands, murdering hundreds, and making it hazardous to travel by road in certain places.  When unknown terrorists attacked the convoy in late May 2023, they brutally killed 4 members of the US Embassy in Nigeria and kidnapped 3 others in Anambra state....

Somalia Suicide Attack: Dozens Killed In Suicide Attack On Military Academy In Mogadishu

According to military sources, a suicide bomber killed at least 30 troops and injured scores more at a military academy in the Somali capital of Mogadishu on Monday.  The suicide bomber blew himself up while the soldiers were being numbered in line, according to a military officer. Militants claim that the bomber injured 124 people in addition to killing 73 soldiers.  A military operation launched by government forces and affiliated militias last year pushed the al Qaeda-linked outfit out of large parts of southern Somalia, but the militants have continued to launch lethal attacks.  Al Qaeda fighters have stepped up their attacks in recent days as the military operation against them has paused while the army prepares a second phase of the offensive.  Late in May, at least 54 Ugandan African peacekeepers were killed by Qaeda-backed militants in the south of Mogadishu.  They surrounded Baidoa, one of the country's largest cities, for more than two weeks.  The...

South Africa: 16 Perished In Gas leak Tragedy

South Africa, CAPE TOWN ―  A gas leak in a South African slum near Johannesburg on Thursday killed at least 16 people, including children, according to emergency services, which revised the death toll after several people were resuscitated.  The accident, which occurred Wednesday night in the informal town of Angelo, in the Boksburg region to the east of Johannesburg, is thought to have been caused by illicit mining activity. "We currently have 16 persons at the site whose deaths have been verified. "Several others were revived and transferred to hospital with the aid of paramedics," emergency services spokesperson William Nthladi told AFP at the scene.  He said four of the victims were in hospital in a "critical" condition and eleven were in a "serious but stable" condition.  He said that a person, whom he identified as a young man, was fully conscious. 4 dead, 3 kidnapped after attack on US embassy convoy in Nigeria

A convoy of US embassy officials was attacked in Nigeria, killing 2 officials and 2 policemen.  The assailants also kidnapped three persons in Tuesday's attack outside the town of Atani in the Nigerian state of Anambra two police officers and a driver.  "The outlaws executed 2 mobile police officers and 2 consular officers and burned their bodies and vehicles," authorities said, adding that the area is known for separatist violence.  It is unknown why the US Embassy personnel traveled to Anambra, as well as how many vehicles were in the convoy.  According to a police report, rescue and salvage attempts are still in progress.  During a White House news briefing on Tuesday, John Kirby, speaking on behalf of the US National Security Council, claimed that "no US citizen was in convoy, therefore no US citizen was injured."  The US State Department later issued a statement saying US diplomats are  "working with Nigerian security to investigate the deadly att...

Over 100 Killed As Fighting B/W Rival Tribes Rages In Sudan

Sudan,(Daily Post). Fighting between Arabs and non-Arabs has killed at least 168 people in Sudan's war-torn Darfur area, NGO said.   On Sunday, the Chief Coordinator of Refugees and Displaced Persons in Darfur said 98 people had also been injured in fighting in the Kreinik area of ​​West Darfur province.  He further added that clashes began on Thursday, with two people killed by unknown assailants in Kreinik, about 30 km east of Genena, West Darfur province's capital.  Armed groups attacked wounded people as they were being treated at Genena's main hospital, according to a doctor and ex-medical director at the hospital. Authorities have been urged by the International Committee of the Red Cross to secure the victim's safe entry to the hospital.

Blast At Oil Refinery In Nigeria Costs Hundred Lives

Nigeria,(Daily Post. More than 100 people died in an overnight explosion at an illegal oil refining depot in the Nigerian state of Rivers, officials said. "Blast followed by a deadly blaze in an illegal oil hiding place directly affected over 110 unknown workers," said the state's oil commissioner.  Nigerian authorities did not immediately release the names of those who were killed. Due to joblessness in the Niger Delta, illegal oil refining has become a lucrative business, but with disastrous results.  Oil leaks from fields, streams, and lagoons have already contaminated the vast areas, resulting in several fatal accidents.  In October 2021, a blast and fire at an illegal petroleum processing plant in Nigeria killed around 25 workers in the same province . 

Twenty people killed in a road accident in Nigeria

Nigeria,(Daily Post) .  A public bus collided with a car on a highway in northern Nigeria, killing 20 people, including children, the Road Safety Agency said Tuesday.  “The cause of the accident was overspeeding.  One driver was injured, 20 people were burned to death, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) state headquarters in Bauchi said in a statement.  Many of the roads in Africa's most populous country are poorly maintained and have potholes, leading to many deaths each year. 

Packed Market In Nigeria Rocked By Blast, Killing 3, Wounding 19

Nigeria,(Daily Post). A blast at a packed market in eastern Nigeria's Taraba state killed 3 people and injured 19 others, according to local authorities. An explosion occurred on Tuesday at a food market full of traders in rural Iware, killing three people and injuring more than a dozen others, according to a Taraba police official. "This was presumably due to an improvised explosive device," Abdullah told Reuters by phone. "The inquiry is underway. " Nigeria is plagued by unrest, as armed gangs and an Islamist insurgency attacking communities and security objectives in the country's northern regions.

African Joint Army Claims To Have Neutralized 10 High-profile Terrorists
