Nigeria,(Daily Post. More than 100 people died in an overnight explosion at an illegal oil refining depot in the Nigerian state of Rivers, officials said.
"Blast followed by a deadly blaze in an illegal oil hiding place directly affected over 110 unknown workers," said the state's oil commissioner.
Nigerian authorities did not immediately release the names of those who were killed.
Due to joblessness in the Niger Delta, illegal oil refining has become a lucrative business, but with disastrous results.
Oil leaks from fields, streams, and lagoons have already contaminated the vast areas, resulting in several fatal accidents.
In October 2021, a blast and fire at an illegal petroleum processing plant in Nigeria killed around 25 workers in the same province.
