Iran praises its latest talks with Saudi Arabia

Iran, KSA,(Daily Post). Iran released its first official statement on the fifth round of talks between Tehran and Riyadh, calling the talks "positive" and "on track".

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Saeed Khativzadeh made the remarks during a weekly press conference on Monday morning.

The Iranian delegation was led by Saeed Irvani, Chief of Staff for International Affairs at Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNS). The Saudi Arabian delegation was led by Khalid al-Humaidan, Director General of the General Directorate of Intelligence. The fifth round of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia was held in Baghdad last Thursday. The Iraqi and Omani governments facilitated the meeting between Iran and KSA. Iran's Khatibzadeh described the negotiations as "progressive and encouraging."

The pre-planned frameworks were thoroughly reviewed in these talks," he added.

The discussions were also described as a meaningful move toward resolving issues.

We can quickly see real progress in numerous domains within the framework of the negotiations if they are elevated to a political level."

An Iranian spokesman also raised the possibility of a meeting between the Iranian foreign minister and Saudi Arabia.

"The two parties agreed to halt the security consultations and shift to diplomatic negotiations," the source added.

"It is envisaged that the sixth meeting would take place on Iraqi land," the source said.

"The discussion was positive," the insider continued, "and they agreed on a list of de-escalation points between Riyadh and Tehran."

"Tehran and Riyadh were in preliminary talks about sending 40,000 Iranian pilgrims to Mecca for the haj this year," Khatibzadeh stated.

"The conference lasted several hours, and the Iranian delegation paid a visit to religious sites while the Saudi team left Baghdad late," the official said.
