Ukraine claims Russian Black Sea Fleet commander killed

Ukraine claims that the Russian Black Sea division commander was killed in a missile strike

Ukraine said on Monday that it had carried out its first missile attack, killing the commander of Russia's Black Sea Fleet.

Ukrainian special forces said Viktor Sokolov and 33 other officers were killed in the peninsula of Crimea in Friday's attack.

" Following the attack on the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters, 34 officers were killed, including the commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet," the Ukrainian side stated on Monday, adding that over 100 additional Russian officials were injured.

An officer reportedly went missing as a result of the Ukrainian onslaught on Sevastopol, according to reports from Moscow.

Joe Biden had vowed to supply long-range missiles to the Ukrainian military after previous supplies of superior equipment failed to shift the game.

Ukraine has been aggressively striking critical Russian targets in Crimea, the Black Sea area of southern Ukraine that has been under Moscow's authority since its takeover in 2014.

On the other side, the public in Ukraine has also been shocked by the high death toll of soldiers in failed operations and the massive destruction of military equipment purchased from the West.

Young Ukrainians are reportedly leaving the country in great numbers to avoid military service.
