According to the United
Nations Relief and Works Organization for Palestine Outcasts in the Near East
(UNRWA), more than 1.9 million people, or more than 80% of the Gaza Strip's
population, have been displaced.
"Almost 1.9
million people (or more than 80% of the population) have been evicted across
the Gaza Strip since 7 October," it stated, adding that 60,000 Gaza
residents sought shelter at UNRWA facilities between November 30 and December
2.
"Since
December 2, approximately 1.2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) are
taking refuge in 156 UNRWA facilities in the five governorates of the Gaza
Strip, including the north and Gaza City," according to a press release.
"Nearly one
million IDPs have been accommodated in 99 offices in Center, Khan Yunis, and
Rafah districts.
" The organization claims that each of its facilities can hold up to 10,300 people, which is four times its maximum capacity,
TASS reported.
On October 7, Israel
declared war on the Gaza Strip after the Palestinian resistance group Hamas
began Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against Israeli occupation troops in retaliation
for increasing crimes against the Palestinian people.
Since the beginning of
the conflict, the Israeli government has killed at least 16,000 Palestinians,
predominantly women and children, injured 41,316, and devastated most of Gaza.
