Saleh al-Arouri, one of Hamas's senior commanders, was martyred In the Beruit Blast, according to the Hamas military media wing.
Senior Hamas official Saleh al-Arouri was assassinated in the Dahiyeh district of southern Beirut by an Israeli drone attack on Tuesday evening.
The explosion was so strong that it rattled the windows of apartment buildings.
An Israeli drone triggered the explosion, which killed four people, according to Lebanon's National News Agency. Israeli officials declined to comment.
The 57-year-old was the founding commander of Hamas' military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, and the deputy leader of the organization's executive office.
In 2006, he was part of an arrangement that saw over 1,000 Palestinian detainees liberated in return for an IDF corporal.
Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of Hamas, is in grief for his deputy, Saleh al-Arouri, who was purportedly martyred by Israel.
"This is a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and an extension of the circle of Israel's aggression against our people," said Haniyeh.
