Corbyn, the former UK opposition
leader, is going to join South Africa's delegation charging Israel with
Palestinian genocide.
The former United Kingdom opposition
leader Jeremy Corbyn is joining a South African group for the upcoming
proceedings at the International Court of Justice, where the countries charge Israel with Palestinian genocide, the South
African government said Tuesday.
Mr. Corbyn and other "senior
politicians from progressive political parties and movements across the
world" are accompanying the South African delegation, according to a
Pretoria statement.
Mr. Corbyn has been an outspoken
opponent of Israel and a lifelong backer of the Palestinian cause.
In 2020, he was suspended from the
Labour Party after it was discovered by the British Equalities Watchdog that
party officials had engaged in “harassment and discrimination” against Jews and
that his leadership had enabled anti-Semitic sentiment to proliferate inside
the organization.
He expressed solidarity with South
Africa's lawsuit against Israel in a message posted on Twitter on Monday while
condemning the British government.
Britain Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stands behind Israel as it fights Hamas in response to the group's unexpected Oct 7 attack.
