Israel withdraws
envoys as Spain, Ireland, and Norway consent to recognize the Palestinian
state.
Israel withdrew its
ambassadors to Norway, Spain, and Ireland on Wednesday in an attempt to send a serious warning to the three nations ahead of their acceptance of
Palestinian statehood next week.
Ireland, Norway, and Spain's leaders said on Wednesday that they will officially recognize Palestine as a state.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store emphasized, "There will be no peace in the Middle East if there is no recognition."
Spanish Prime Minister
Pedro Sanchez also declared that the country's cabinet of ministers will
recognize an independent Palestinian state by the next week.
"The Following Tuesday, May 28, Spain's cabinet will approve the recognition of the Palestinian state," he noted that his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu is putting the two-state solution at "risk" with his "pain and destruction" policies in the Gaza Strip.
Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Iran praised Norway, Spain, and Ireland's "positive" decision to recognize a Palestinian state.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz voiced anguish at Norway, Spain, and Ireland's unwavering support for Palestinian independence.
