Pakistan: Over 55 Martyred After Gunmen Went On Deadly Shooting Rampage In KPK

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — (Daily Post) - More than 55

people were killed and 22 injured when gunmen opened fire on passenger vehicles carrying Shiite citizens in northwest Pakistan on Thursday.

The militants attacked the vehicles in Kurram, a district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, that borders Afghanistan and has experienced fatal sectarian clashes in recent years.

According to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, terrorists opened fire on a convoy traveling from Parachinar to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's capital, Peshawar.

After the horrific tragedy, Naqvi spoke with Ali Amin Gandapur, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who has been striving to resolve the sectarian violence that has cost hundreds of Pakistani lives this calendar year.

As of right now, no group has taken responsibility for the shooting.

Gandapur, KPK's Chief Minister, expressed condolences to the deceased families and pledged financial help for the victims' relatives.

Security personnel, as well as the federal and provincial governments, have failed completely in saving innocent lives.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and President Asif Ali Zardari all strongly criticized the shooting incident in Kurram, that targeted passenger vehicles.

Different reports relating to the death toll are coming in; however, the real number of fatalities has yet to be determined.

Local media has alleged on social media that more than 100 people have been martyred, including a large proportion of women and children.

Pakistan has been the target of many terrorist organizations for a decade, and different militant groups emerged during America’s War with Afghanistan.

Pakistan, being an ally of America in the war has to face various challenges from inside and outside of the country.

Waziristan and KPK being near the Afghan border had to face several attacks from different militant groups.

The different militant groups that are fighting against the Pakistan armed forces are Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), Jundallah, al-Qaeda, Haqqani network, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
