The Ukrainian armed forces have
received cluster bombs from the United States, a senior Pentagon official said
on Thursday.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff's Lieutenant General Douglas Sims informed reporters that cluster bombs have actually been delivered to
Ukraine."
As reported by TASS, the general remained mum
on whether they had been utilized.
This information was also confirmed to CNN
earlier in the day by General Alexander Turnavsky, who is in charge of combined
forces operations in Tavria.
Despite the United Nations' opposition to the
use of such weapons, the United States chose to supply cluster bombs to
Ukraine, said US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on July 7.
Furthermore, he claimed Kyiv had written to
Washington to assure it would deploy the contentious weaponry in a way that
reduced harm to civilians.
Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to
the United States, said that the United States' reckless decision to give
cluster bombs to Ukraine would not stop Russia from attaining its specific
military operations objectives.
