At
least 29 people were killed Sunday when a bus plunged into a cliff
in Antique, central Philippines, local authorities said.
The
53-person bus carrying passengers was headed west from Iloilo City to San Jose
de Buenavista in the province of Antique at 4:30 p.m. local time when it hit a
concrete road barrier and then crashed into a 15-meter-deep gully in Hamtic
town.
Provincial
Antiquities governor Junlee Saylo said in a radio interview that 25 people
died immediately and four others died in nearby hospitals.
According
to the news website ABS-CBN, the victims were the bus driver, bus cleaner, and cash collector.
A
locale newspaper, Panay News, cited the provincial government of Antique to
report that two seriously injured passengers, one of whom was a male from
Kenya, were transported to an Iloilo City hospital for healing.
Emergency
services have recovered both survivors and the bodies of those who perished in
the incident.
