Monday afternoon, President Bashar al-Assad congratulated
Vladimir Putin on his presidential election triumph.
"I congratulate you for your victory and re-election
as President of Russia with an overwhelming majority," President al-Assad
stated in a congratulatory cable.
President al-Assad said that this triumph demonstrates
the Russian people's strong faith in Putin and his national policies and
strategic objectives, which are based on the people's interests and Russia's
long-standing global position.
His Excellency stated that Russia has a rich
history and civilization founded on principles and values, as well as respect
for the interests and rights of other nations and peoples, rather than
conquest, dominance, and pillage.
Assad greeted his
Russian counterpart's success in his commitments and obligations, as well as
distinctive relations and bilateral cooperation that would benefit both Syria
and Russia.
